El Paso, TX, July 17, 2018 – El Paso County Parks & Recreation invites the community to participate in the inaugural County Catfish Classic on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 7 am to 12 pm. This adult fishing catch-and-release tournament is the first of its kind for the Ascarate Fishing Club, who typically only produces kids fishing events. The Catfish Classic is a fundraiser for the Ascarate Fishing Club to help them continue to bring fishing and sportsmanship to youth in the community at no cost.

Advance registration can be completed at the El Paso County Parks & Recreation administrative office located in Ascarate Park (6900 Delta Dr.), Monday-Friday 8 am to 6 pm through July 27th. All registration fees will be collected the day of the tournament by the Ascarate Fishing Club.

The first 200 participants will receive a welcome bag from Cabela’s at registration. All participants will be entered into a raffle for additional prizes. There will be prizes and trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. There is a 2 pole limit per angler, and kayaks/boats (trolling motors only) are welcome. All anglers are required to have a fishing license issued by the State of Texas. These can be purchased at most sporting goods stores.
