Q. how much does it cost to fish?

A. There is no fee to fish in Ascarate Lake! You are required to have a Texas fishing license if you're over the age of 17. The daily limit is 5 adult fish per person, or unlimited catch and release. There is a two pole limit per person.

Q. how often is the lake stocked?

A. The lake is stocked with fish based on the availability of fish delivery and funds. For the latest fish stocking, please check Facebook or contact the main office at 915-771-2380. The fish stocked are typically catfish, rainbow trout, and blue gill.

Q. why do i have to pay parking fees on the weekend and during special events?

A. Commissioners Court approved a fee schedule for weekend and special event parking fees in order to help generate revenue for park improvements. These fees go into the County general fund and are taken into consideration when discussing budget and amounts that will be allocated to the park.

Q. Why does ascarate lake close after a fish stocking?

A. The park procedure following a fish stocking is to close the lake for 24 hours. The fish are not fed prior to their travel, making them very hungry. The lake closure allows the fish time to eat, and spread around the lake. This creates a healthier environment for the fish, and gives all anglers equal opportunity to fish.
