The El Paso County Parks & Recreation invites the public to celebrate an alternative to trick or treating this year. Join in on Halloweekend at Ascarate Park with activities beginning Wednesday, October 28 thru Sunday, November 1. Events include a pet photo contest, pumpkin decorating contest and drive-thru scavenger hunt along with a drive-in movie.
The first 500 attendees under the age of 15 will receive a Halloween goodie bag when entering the park on Saturday, beginning at 5pm. Parking will be $2 on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 with health and safety protocols in effect.
Pet Photo Contest: Show off your fur friend’s best Halloween costume. Send us your pet’s photo between Oct. 28 to Oct. 30 with them dressed up alone, or you can show us a family photo with your pet included in the group’s theme. Submit your photo on Instagram using the hashtag #EPHalloweekendPets2020 for a chance to win a prize. A public vote will take place on Oct. 31 via Instagram.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Let’s see those pumpkin decorating skills! Participants are asked to paint, carve or decorate a pumpkin. All pumpkins will be displayed at Ascarate Park for the Halloweekend Event on Saturday, October 31. Registration begins Oct. 28 and deadline to submit a pumpkin is Friday, October 30. The drop off time will be from 3pm to 8pm at Ascarate Park’s Pavillion, located inside the park.
Drive-In Movie: Enjoy a Halloweekend drive-in movie experience beginning Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1. “Ghost Stories of El Paso” Volume Two and Four each running about an hour will be shown all weekend long beginning at 7:30pm. On Halloween night, Saturday Oct. 31 “Monster’s Inc.” will be shown beginning at 6:00pm followed by “Ghost Stories of El Paso”.
Be sure to get there early as we will be following social distancing guidelines in-between vehicles and will be only allowing 100 cars per viewing. Attendees can bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages as they remain in their vehicles.
